    The Golf Channel hit a hole in one with the revitalization of part of its Orlando campus. The channel turned to Walker Design LLC to create a high-functioning, multi-use space within a 1,200-square-foot area. The space holds conference and training areas plus a genius bar. It has fully integrated audio/visual technology, integrated writable surfaces for informal gatherings and multiple movable seating options that can house 150 occupants. The new 210,000-square-foot hospital provides more than 50 inpatient beds and room to expand to more than 100. Reeves Football Complex further elevates Clemson’s program and promotes the recruitment, training and development of student-athletes. Here was the designer’s challenge: turn a former boiler factory into an office, while preserving the former space’s history. In probing this transformational case study, we in this seminar will demonstrate how to balance the client’s needs for an open and energetic workplace with historic preservation. We’ll investigate the efficacy of pairing contemporary office trends, such as open bench seating and demountable glass systems, with preservation goals. Plus, we’ll evaluate design strategies that ensure both financial and aesthetic benefits. Complying with national tax credit programs helps promote these benefits, as well as providing designers the opportunity to make fine designs, while preserving historic fabric. So, what’s next for us as designers and sustainability? It’s the WELL building standard, which measures both the health and well-being of humans and their environment. Employing WELL for our framework, we’ll explore how best to apply the WELL standard throughout our workplace strategy and design.
