EYP Health has named Jacqueline Guerra as the 2017-2018 recipient of the firm’s highly regarded Tradewell Fellowship. Few architectural fellowships offer recent graduates a focused opportunity to work closely with senior firm leaders and experience significant interaction with healthcare clients. EYP Health’s Tradewell Fellowship, now celebrating its 20th year, has been an important milestone in the careers of its dedicated and successful alumni.
Guerra comes to the Tradewell Fellowship having earned her Master of Architecture degree with a Certificate in Healthcare Facility Design from Texas Tech University. During her studies, Guerra experienced the power and influence of research, seeing how evidence based design can impact the medical planning choices made for healthcare projects.
Guerra says, “I’m confident that with the resources provided by the Tradewell Fellowship, I can raise relevant research questions, learn from colleagues, grow as a professional, and explore how the creativity of designers can truly be harnessed to improve the human experience.”
Prior to applying for the Tradewell Fellowship, Guerra participated in two architectural design events organized by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) – the Planning, Design & Construction (PDC) Student Challenge 2016, a multi-disciplinary 48-hour design challenge, organized at the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) PDC 2016 in San Diego, California and the STERIS Student Design Charrette at the Healthcare Design Conference (HCD 2016) in Houston, Texas. EYP Health staff, as part of the AIA AAH education committees, led both of these events, demonstrating EYP Health’s desire to give back to the profession.
“These events encouraged my interest in healthcare design, both because I saw that I could apply my efforts to meaningful projects and because I became aware of the extensive research and committed professionals that characterize the healthcare design industry,” says Guerra.
“Jacqueline will collaborate with many of the leading design minds in healthcare on several intriguing projects,” said Charles Griffin, FAIA, FACHA, Principal and Healthcare Sector Leader for EYP Health. “Every year we bring in talented graduates who make valuable contributions to our architectural practice and the profession. The Tradewell Fellowship impacts healthcare design worldwide.”
