One of our favorite presentations at the Oct. 2 NYC: 4th Annual Hospital, Outpatient Facilities & Medical Office Buildings Summit, was Larry F. Rubin, Life Safety Code Surveyor of The Joint Commission, who spoke about changes coming to the survey process.
The McMorrow Reports for Facilities Design and Management was there to cover the conference. Here are some quick takeaways from Rubin’s, M.Ed., CHFM, CHSP, CEP, CEM, CHC, speech:
- Get ready for change. If we see it, we cite it.
- Even though you fix it, I still have to write it down. No more A or C categories.
- They are trying to do away with Hospital Clarifications. If you don’t have it now, it’s not done.
- They are also doing away with incorrect findings. The inspectors will call in to make sure they are marking the right categories.
- Extension are gone!
- No more plan for improvement. They will NOT consider them, but they are good to have.
- Please use the pre-survey checklist. It’s exactly what they use. This is an open-book exam. Prepare your documentation this way as well.
