Lichen from Mohawk Group wins Nightingale Award Best of Competition; 25 products honored

The Nightingale Awards recognize contribution to the healthcare built environment through product design and innovation that contributes to healing. They were judged in November by a panel of healthcare interior designers and facilities managers during the Healthcare Design Conference.

The Best of Competition and Gold Award-winner is The Mohawk Group for Lichen in the Carpet category.

The Lichen Collection is a modular plank carpet system resulting from innovations that merge leading concepts in biophilic design and sustainability. Lichen is the first flooring product to achieve the International Living Future Institute’s Living Product Challenge Petal Certification. Designed by Jason F. McLennan, the founder of the Living Product Challenge, in collaboration with Mohawk Group and his team at McLennan Design, Lichen is inspired by the idea of “Nature’s Carpet.” The design team looked at natural assemblages of rich multi-hued, multi-textured lichens from extreme climates as the foundation for the collection. Lichen is a marriage of sustainability and design as a concrete example of how companies can create positive change in the world through the Living Product Challenge.

The judges said:  The Living Product Challenge  Petal Certification is  commendable. The product has  a luxurious aesthetic of  high-design for  hospitality-looking healthcare applications but with the  capability of being a work horse. We greatly appreciate the depth and thought that was put into the  design of this product, current/relevant  colorways and patterning, fully integrated theme all the way  down to the pile height. It’s a great  sustainability story from  Mohawk.
