March 21-23: Education and government FMs will get up to date on security, safety, wellness and school tech at NFMT in Baltimore

by Eileen McMorrow

Education and federal government facilities managers, executives, engineers and allied professionals will gather March 21-23 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Maryland for NFMT 2023, the National Facility Management and Technology Conference & Expo. The McMorrow Reports & FMLink have been attending for at least 20 years, and we know our readers should, too.

Both the educational conference sessions, starting on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and ending on Thursday at 4:45 p.m., and the expo floor are bountiful with exhibitors from all segments of FM.

To start, the Education Facilities Think Tank for Elite Attendees is a 60-minute informal discussion focused around campus/school buildings and trends. This will allow education professionals to network with peers in a small group. Pull up a chair and ask questions to like-minded facilities managers. Each roundtable will have an official moderator to help guide the conversation.

For both government and education building professionals, look into the following sessions: From Design to Construction: Successful Transitions to Sustainable Operations with John Rimer, CFM, ProFM, president, FM360 Consulting; Safety and Security in Schools Panel with Clarence A. Carson, CCA, CCP. SVP-USA, DCS Global; Demonstrating Commitment with GBI’s Green Globes for Existing Buildings Health & Wellness Distinction with Adam Wellen, Director, Membership & Community, Green Building Initiative; Security & Safety Challenges in Today’s Facilities in 21st Century with Randy Braverman, Facility Engineering Associates; and Facility Management in the Age of Artificial Intelligence and Automation with Dean Kashiwagi, PhD., IFMA Fellow, Kashiwagi Solution Model.

The Asset Management track explores: How to Build an FM Team with the Right Skills & Knowledge, with members of the ProFM commission and recent ProFM credential-holders; Facility Management Innovation and the Future of the Built Environment; and Pace Utilization and Facility Condition Assessments, Anand Sankey, Director of Maintenance Services, Western Michigan University.

Other key sessions are: Preventative and Deferred Maintenance Reality Check: How Accurate is Your Equipment Inventory with David Trask, national director, ARC Facilities; Facilities 2023: Burning Questions, Stone-Cold Solutions with Andy Gager, CMRP, CPIM, CAMA, AMG Consulting, along with Darrell X. Rounds, Global Workplace Risk Mitigation, General Motors; and Improving Indoor Air Quality with UVC Disinfection Systems with Brent Peckover, P. Eng., PMP, and CPA, director of Industrial Applications, Christie’s.

The conference tracks include:

Asset Management; Energy & Sustainability; Future Trends; Health & Safety; Maintenance & Operations; Security; Technology and the Think Tank.

Opening for 90 minutes on Tuesday afternoon, the expo hall kick-off is followed by NFMT’s notable Networking Party from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The Women in FM panel and reception returns on Wednesday afternoon along with the Solutions Exchange. The fnPrime Lounge is available every day. Product Zones, 20-minute sessions during expo hours, occur on the expo floor each day.

NFMT offers a Justification Toolkit (PDF file) for potential attendees to share with their management. It includes a justification letter, cost and budget analysis, and post-event report.
