June 3-5: NextUp members head to DC for solutions to improve the workplace for women and promote DEI&B
Senior leaders will come together to examine ways to advance gender equality, be inspired by world-class speakers, and nurture their networks. The event drives leaders to act collectively to create real and sustainable change during the NextUp Executive Symposium & Forum in Washington, DC, June 3-5. With sessions including Opening Minds, Creating Opportunities; How to Defend Inclusive Programs, Fearless: How to Ask the Hard Questions; The Risk-Ready Leader and The Art of Authentic Leadership, among others, the forum presents unique opportunities for women leaders to hear from leading academics and executives on issues in business and advancement.
On June 3 the symposium will focus on the challenges facing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEI&B) and how to surmount them, including an opportunity to get access to cutting-edge research in a groundbreaking collaboration between IBM and NextUp, with expert presentations. Comedian, attorney, and matchmaker Yasmin Elhady, will explore the crushing weight of expectations women of color experience as they struggle to earn a seat at the table of power and influence. Elhady has performed at The Kennedy Center and was featured on NBC’s True Story, NPR,and Netflix is a Joke Radio on SiriusXM.
NextUp is collaborating with the IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) — IBM’s thought leadership think tank — to explore the opportunities and barriers for women’s advancement at work. In this session, NextUp President & CEO Lisa Baird will join Carolyn Baird, IBV Global Research Leader – Customer Experience and Design to share exciting new research that includes insights from NextUp members. Spark ideas you can use to help more women fill your organization’s leadership pipeline.
In three days, there will be more than 40 speakers and 300+ executive attendees. To solve tough problems in the workplace, NextUp has assembled a panel of HR executives: Pamela Morris-Thornton, CHRO, at Advantage Solutions; Nicole Zube, EVP, CHRO at SpartanNash; and Mike Theilmann, EVP, CHRO at Albertsons Companies. In a discussion with Karen Jones, VP, Learning & Partner Solutions at NextUp, these CHROS will share how they’re actively working to solve pipeline problems to build the next generation of leaders. Then, on June 4-5, the NextUp Executive Forum Agenda will broaden when attendees hear from thought-leaders and connect with peers who are working to power skills, coach high-performance, and build effective programs for equity in the workplace.
