Creating infection prevention and control (IPC) policies is now easier with APIC’s PolicyPro platform

APIC's PolicyPro IPC policy guidance

Initial offering includes hospital policies; long-term care and ambulatory policies and enhanced tech features are slated for the future

Writing infection prevention and control (IPC) policies just got a lot easier for healthcare professionals.

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) announced the launch of PolicyPro — an IPC policy library and management system created by APIC infection preventionist (IP) experts. This subscription-based policy management platform allows healthcare organizations and agencies to customize, adopt, and manage evidence-based IPC policies within their organizations.

Available as an annual subscription, the system is housed on a custom-built tech platform. The initial collection of 28 pre-written policies is designed for hospitals; future policy collections for long-term care and ambulatory care are in development and will be available in late 2024 and 2025. Each policy template is fully referenced with instructions throughout on ways to customize and add specificity.

PolicyPro content is reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis to ensure that it reflects the latest guidance and regulations. As additional policies are developed, they are added to the online library so that subscribers have access to them as they are published.

Unlike other policy management systems, APIC PolicyPro has been developed by APIC experts – it’s written for IPs, by IPs. PolicyPro templates are comprehensive and up to date with current guidelines, helping to ensure that healthcare facilities have robust IPC policies in place to protect their communities from the spread of infections.

Current functionality (“Basic“) is suited for individual users in a single facility. In late 2024, APIC will introduce “Premium” functionality, which will allow multiple users within a single facility to collaborate on policy development and distribution. “Enterprise,” which will be introduced in 2025, will allow healthcare systems to collaborate and standardize policy development across multiple facilities.

PolicyPro saves IPs from having to draft policies from scratch and frees up time that can be better spent on patient units working with frontline care teams. We are excited to launch this high-quality product that IPs can rely on to help make their jobs easier. We see it as a game-changer for our profession.
