After undergoing a competitive selection process, HDR has been selected to do strategic facilities master planning for the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.
With its new hospital opening four years ago, Lurie Children’s has been very successful growing into the facility, nearly exceeding its capacity. The hospital’s administration has proactively decided to get in front of their next phase of growth by developing a strategic facilities master plan.
HDR’s two-sided approach of combining business need with human need secured the global design firm for the job.
“We feel privileged to work with Lurie Children’s to create a road map for how they want to grow as an institution,” says Abigail Clary, HDR, Principal-In-Charge for the master planning effort. “We believe there is more to business than the physical assets and their location. We believe both qualitative and quantitative approaches need to be brought together to realize business goals and consistency in care delivery and patient experience, and that’s what we are proud to provide for Lurie Children’s.”
HDR’s broad expertise will lend itself well to creating a strategic facilities master plan for the institution that will be comprehensive across the campus, strategic healthcare partnerships and their expanding ambulatory network. The goal of Lurie Children’s is to create a flexible plan that aligns with the strategic direction of the overall institution and to provide increased access to children and their families.
HDR’s project team, comprised with Lurie Children’s staff, are conducting planning sessions to begin Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the master plan, which will include data-gathering, visioning sessions, option assessments and implementation.
