The International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) recently announced the release of an update to industry guideline 02.02.04 Security Officer Training, De-Escalation Training (PDF), part of the IAHSS Healthcare Security Industry Guidelines, 13th Edition.
The Council on Guidelines made these modifications to reflect the recognition that understanding Trauma Informed Care (TiC) can assist healthcare facilities in reducing incidents of aggression and violence. Security officers can reduce the likelihood of triggering trauma, and avoid escalating patients’ behavior, by receiving training in the elements of Trauma Informed Care, says IAHSS.
The IAHSS Council on Guidelines is comprised of volunteer IAHSS members who are seasoned healthcare security professionals and leaders. Each year the Council on Guidelines develops new industry guidelines and reviews existing guidelines on a three-year cycle. All IAHSS guidelines are available electronically to IAHSS members via the IAHSS website. Hardcopies of the guidelines booklet are available for sale in the IAHSS online store.
