Two products introduced at JSI Furniture’s inaugural launch of JSI Health at the 2024 Healthcare Design Conference + Expo won Nightingale Awards from Healthcare Design magazine. The Kindera recliner won a Silver Award and the Satisse family of metal seating won an Innovation Award. Both Kindera and Satisse were developed in partnership with one of the healthcare industry’s most preeminent furniture designers, Mike Shields.

Kindera

JSI Health’s performance recliner, Kindera, won the Silver Nightingale Award in the Patient Seating category. Kindera was created with the intention of helping patients feel at ease during their treatment and recovery. In partnership with Mike Shields, the design process involved identifying market needs through research and stakeholder engagement, using rapid prototyping and continuous improvement. JSI’s collaboration with health facilities informed design decisions, aiming to empower patients, families, and caregivers.

The result of this collaboration, Kindera, revolutionizes patient care by transforming the traditional dynamics of patient and caregiver interaction. By focusing on comfort, ergonomics, enhanced caregiver and patient connectivity and communication, JSI Health elevates the patient’s overall experience. Kindera’s human-centered design features intuitive adjustment controls that allow caregivers to focus on patients and improve communication and care quality.

Kindera’s Trans4rm system enables either arm of the recliner to retract into the frame, facilitating seamless and safe patient transfers without increasing the recliner’s footprint. The Trans4rm™ system reduces physical strain on staff and enhances operational efficiency. Additionally, the design accommodates different body types. It offers options for heat and power, further improving patient comfort and making it ideal for all clinical spaces and enhanced environments for wellness.

Kindera features an ergonomically contoured headrest for maximum support and offers various customization options, including arm cap materials, upholstery zones, Trendelenburg, moisture barrier, heated seat and back, and USB power port. Optional vertical push handles allow attendants to reposition the recliner naturally, reducing strain. Positioned at arm height, dual-sided levers allow caregivers to easily lock or release casters while maintaining eye contact with their patients. The back is designed to avoid wall grazes when upright, and a nylon base trim bumper protects upholstery edges. A clean out around the seat and easily replaceable high-use parts extend the product’s lifespan. Kindera’s statement of line includes patient recliner with fixed arms, single transfer arm, and dual transfer arm, all available with the Trendelenburg option. Bariatric models are also available with fixed arms, single transfer arm, and dual transfer arms.

Kindera provides a calming environment for patients and intuitive operation for caregivers, representing a significant advancement in healthcare furniture. Made in the U.S.A., Kindera is a testament to JSI Health’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of care and improving the healthcare experience.

Satisse

JSI Health’s Satisse family of metal seating earned the prestigious Nightingale Innovation Award. The ultimate seating solution designed to address the evolving challenges in healthcare and transform those environments, Satisse offers a comforting design and a comprehensive collection of metal seating options, encouraging guests to relax and find support in the moment.

Inspired by the need for adaptability in spatial distancing and room flow, JSI Health consulted with Mike Shields to create the innovative Satisse. Understanding the changing dynamics of the healthcare landscape, Shields sought to develop a solution for designers and facilities with the patent-pending MagLinx connectors. These glide connectors create an incredibly strong magnetic bond without requiring hardware or additional tools, resulting in endless flexibility to transform the space from one configuration to another. This innovative linking design addresses the challenge of creating organized and maintained spaces without compromising the flexibility needed in the new norm of healthcare environments.

Comfort is paramount with Satisse. The arm arch design allows individuals to find their most natural resting position effortlessly, while the subtly curved pommel arm grip provides gentle support for ingress and egress.

Satisse offers additional innovative benefits, including a wall-saver design protecting walls from markings, a 360-degree clean out feature facilitating thorough cleaning (essential in healthcare settings), and easy part replacement for chair arms, seats, and backs, promoting longevity and reducing maintenance costs.

These chairs elegantly embrace the challenge of being everything to everyone, providing unique flexibility for facilities to arrange and maintain each area. The community space is, in many ways, the first impression of a healthcare space. Satisse is designed to make a positive first impression without compromising design, functionality, durability, or pliability.

Satisse is a broad family of seating and table options that are both functional and beautiful. The collection includes guest/multi-use, patient, bariatric, easy access, lounge, and tables, available in freestanding and linking configurations. Satisse also features a wide range of material options, seven metal frame colors, and arm caps in various finishes.
