Transparency in Practice

Material transparency allows building professionals to research hidden product impacts like embodied carbon, toxic ingredients or byproducts, and social responsibility in the supply chain.

Learning objectives. Upon completing this continuing education course you will be able to:
1. Understand why Material Transparency is important
2. Analyze building products through the lens of a Nutrition Label
3. Learn how Material Transparencies impact the Plant and People.
4. Understand how Material Transparency works with the Circular Economy.

Course Time: approximately 50 minutes plus 10 minutes for Q&A
Available for 1 AIA LU/HSW; 1 IDCEC (HSW): 1 GBCI CE; 1 AIBC Core LU; and 1.0 AAA Structured LH Credit

Safe, Hygienic Healthcare Environments that Support Wellbeing

In this course we discuss how facilities, along with design, need to work hand in hand to prevent the spread of infections through effective hygiene, cleaning/disinfection and adaptable design. These elements are also central to a safe, positive patient experience. Performance has always been a discussion point as part of material and surface selection; however as a result of COVID-19, the importance of cleaning and disinfection of surfaces in all settings has become a priority within interior environments.

Learning objectives: Upon completing this continuing education course you will be able to:

1. Identify basic terminology related to pandemic response
2. Access the importance of developing a proper “chain of transmission intervention model” pathogens
3. Gain insight into how architects and designers can rethink the physical space while responding to new challenges posed by COVID-19 around health, safety, and well-being of the built environment
4. Learn how material selection can enhance Health, Safety, and Wellbeing of patients, families, visitors and staff.

Course Time: approximately 50 minutes plus 10 minutes for Q&A

Available for 1 AIA LU/HSW; 1 IDCEC (HSW): 1 GBCI CE; and 1 AIBC Core LU Credit
